Although it is a brief lesson plan, it provides insightful questions to ask students. Hello all, welcome to our first blog post. As a club emerging during a pandemic, we had to take a minor break to reassess our situation for the school year. The first term of Arcata High school will be taking place at a distance with COVID-19 cases rising in the county. Due to these conditions, we have decided to continue meeting via Zoom or Google Meets. These virtual meetings will begin mid-September during the lunch period and continue biweekly, or monthly. My fellow officers and members invite you to join us in one of our Zoom meetings. As president, I (Maya Scanlon), will continue to devote time to this club by adding educational resources weekly. In-person activities and fundraisers will be postponed until further notice. However, we are stepping up our social media content by committing to posting each week on Instagram (these posts may also be seen on this website). Along with educational resources and awareness via social media, I hope to have other members and officers write blog posts like these monthly.
If you know anyone who would like to join this club please refer them to this site. Students and/or community members do not need to identify themselves with AAPI heritage, it's great to just have allies present! We are working hard to reach out to others, but it continues to be difficult with the current conditions. To be notified about virtual meetings and receive the invitation link one should fill out the "New Members" Google form. This will provide us with the necessary contact information. If you would like to volunteer time and effort helping with social media, outreach, or this site, please use the contact us function on this site. We highly encourage underclassmen to join this club in order for it to continue once all of the officers graduate this year. We are looking forward to starting out the school year with our best foot forward, Maya Scanlon AHS AAPI, President |

ResourcesThese resources have been compiled in order to supplement the learning of high school students. Teachers may find these helpful in aiding in their own anti-racist journey. Once we learn about how to approach racial situations we must strive to teach others and enrich future generations.
